For twenty-four years, Carolyn McClean has worked as an assistant librarian at the Corinth Library. May 30th, 2013 was her final day at the library as she officially began her retirement.
Ms. McClean divided her career between the library and the public school system where she worked as an in-school suspension teacher. She retired from the school system in the fall of 2012.
The Corinth and Northeast Regional Library Headquarters staff treated Ms. McClean to a farewell luncheon at the General’s Quarters on May 30th. She received cards, gifts, and a certificate of appreciation from the Mississippi Library Commission for her many years of service to the library.
Robin Parrish began working as Order Clerk for the Northeast Regional Library in November, 2012, taking over the position vacated by Hazel Sparks who retired in December after 16 years in the position.
Ms. Parrish is a native of Centralia, Illinois. She moved to Mississippi after high school in order to attend Northeast Mississippi Community College. She and her husband Lew have been married for over thirty years and have 3 children who all work in medical and related professions.
Ms. Parrish has a background in sales and customer service which she says have helped her acclimate to her new duties at the library. She is very excited about her future with the Northeast Regional Library.
Several new staff members are assuming duties during this time. Changes are taking place at the Headquarters library in Corinth and at the Iuka and Tishomingo branch libraries.
Fredda McCune, who has been librarian at the Iuka Library for 33 years, will retire in January of 2013. Gwen Spain has been hired as Librarian. Mrs. Spain is currently working with Mrs. McCune as the transition takes place.
Hazel Sparks has been Order Clerk at the Headquarters library in Corinth for 16 years. Mrs. Sparks will retire in late December of this year. Robin Parrish has been selected to assume these duties and is currently training with Mrs. Sparks in the library’s Technical Services department.
Tishomingo Librarian Brenda Sappington has left the library to pursue a teaching position in the local schools. Mrs. Sappington worked for the Northeast Regional Library for 10 years, 7 of which were as Tishomingo Librarian. Beverly Parker has worked as a substitute for both the Tishomingo and Belmont Libraries over the past year and a half. She has now become the Interim Librarian at Tishomingo.
Headquarters and branch staff welcome these three new staff members to the Northeast Regional Library and wish them well as they begin their new positions.
